The Fuess centrifugal psychrometer is used for the reliable determination of relative humidity under field conditions. It consists of two thermometers arranged in a V-shape for better readability. The thermometers are connected by a stainless steel chain with a handle.
It consists of:
- a 260 mm long, 18 mm wide, V-shaped housing with ventilation slots, chrome-plated,
- a double thermometer holder with rubber mounting,
- two radiation protection tubes for the thermometer vessels,
- one on the clasp with 50cm chain with PVC handle and
- one dry and one wet spin thermometer with a scale division of 0.5 °C.
The air ventilation required for the psychrometric measurement is achieved by a circular spinning motion. This achieves a ventilation speed of approximately v = 5 m/s at the thermometers.
The temperature values of the dry and wet bulb thermometers are used to determine the relative humidity using a graphic evaluation table.
