The Fuess centrifugal psychrometer is used for the reliable determination of relative humidity under field conditions. It consists of two thermometers arranged in a V-shape for better readability. The thermometers are connected by a stainless steel chain with a handle.
It consists of:
a 260 mm long, 18 mm wide, V-shaped housing with ventilation slots, chrome-plated,
a double thermometer holder with rubber mounting,
two radiation protection tubes for the thermometer vessels,
one on the clasp with 50cm chain with PVC handle and
one dry and one wet spin thermometer with a scale division of 0.5 °C.
The air ventilation required for the psychrometric measurement is achieved by a circular spinning motion. This achieves a ventilation speed of approximately v = 5 m/s at the thermometers. The temperature values of the dry and wet bulb thermometers are used to determine the relative humidity using a graphic evaluation table.
