The Hellmann rain gauge is used to determine the daily rainfall total during the frost-free period.
.
The rain gauge consists of:
- 1 upper part (collecting vessel) made of zinc sheet,
- 1 lower part made of zinc sheet,
- 1 plastic collecting can,
- 1 measuring cylinder, crystal clear (according to DIN 58667) and
- 1 holder
- Snow cross (optional)
The main features of the Hellmann rain gauge are:
- Collection area 200 cm²
- Material zinc sheet
- low evaporation error
- easy operation
- high reliability
- maintenance-free
The Hellmann rain and snow gauge consists of two precipitation gauges of the same design (DIN 58 666), making the instruments interchangeable. If solid precipitation is present in the collection vessel at the time of measurement, the entire vessel system is replaced. The solid precipitation is converted into the liquid phase by careful thawing in a heated room, and measured with the measuring glass in the same way as liquid precipitation.
