The most widely used modern humidity sensors are based on the humidity-dependent change in the capacitance of a capacitor with a thin polymer film as a dielectric, which is applied to a stable glass substrate. Depending on the ambient humidity, the polymer film absorbs or releases water molecules. This changes the dielectric properties of the polymer film and thus the capacitance of the capacitor.
