Measuring principle
The container with the submersible float for gust recording is located beneath the recorder housing. Water serves as the fill fluid, or in rooms prone to frost, a frost-proof mixture of equal weight. The pressure lines are connected using the included rubber hoses so that the total pressure coming from the wind vane tip is below the float, and the static pressure is above the float. This arrangement ensures that the float is adjusted solely by the dynamic pressure. The parabolic shape of the float causes a root extraction, so that the deflections of the root of the dynamic pressure, i.e., the wind speed, are proportional. The submersible float is – in contrast to diaphragm measuring instruments – free from aging and after-effects, and the overall construction is robust and without sensitive components.
Transmission elements. The large cross-section of the pressure lines ensures that even short-term gust peaks are well recorded. The central pen records the wind path in alternating rising and falling curves, moving through the diagram section in a different direction for every 10 km of wind path.
This section is divided into 10 intervals. One interval corresponds to 1 km of wind path.
By counting these wind path intervals recorded within one hour, one obtains the average wind speed in km/h.
The two upper nibs, each of which is assigned to one half of the compass rose,
record the wind direction in a continuous curve.
