Smart home

Smart Home is a generic term for technical processes and systems in living spaces and houses that focus on improving the quality of living, security and efficient energy use based on networked and remotely controllable devices and installations as well as automated processes.

This term includes both the networking of building technology and household appliances (for example lamps, blinds, heating, but also stoves, refrigerators and washing machines), as well as the networking of entertainment electronics components (such as the central storage and home-wide use of video and audio content).

A smart home is defined as one in which all lights, buttons, and devices used in the house are interconnected, devices can store data, and implement their own logic. Some devices are also tagged, meaning that information about the devices in the smart home, such as the manufacturer, product name, and performance, is stored. The smart home has its own programming interface , which can be accessed (also) via the internet and controlled via expandable apps .

Closely related to these procedures and systems are those of smart metering , which focus on measuring and intelligently regulating energy consumption.

In addition to "smart home," terms such as intelligent living , "eHome," "smart living," and other designations have become established, some of which differ only in shades of meaning. Manufacturers of smart home systems and components also use additional terms specifically tailored to their individual marketing .
